Overview

Service Design

Project period: 4 months

Individual Project (2021)

Digital Application

Augmented Reality

Many people will face separation, and pet funerals should be more concerned with the emotions of the pet owner. However, in China, pet funerals are still in the development stage, and there are many problems and limitations. I hope to consider more in my project to make funeral services better.

After the sweep of COVID-19 in 2020, the pet funeral market is expected to see a wave of growth (2953 billion). While policies for pet burials are still being refined, overall, pet burials will receive more attention and support.

Pest analysis of the pet funeral market

Throughout the pet industry, there is huge potential for growth in the service contribution share of pet funerals.

One of the prominent figures illustrates that most people (80%) have experienced the death of their pet, but less than half have learned about pet funeral-related content (39%). To some extent, this shows that the pet funeral industry is not keeping up with the needs of the people.

Understanding user pain points and needs in 4 dimensions using empathy maps

The three perspectives of the user, the pet funeral home and the possible missing services are used to show how the process is experienced by the user and what pain points they face. From there, we will look for points of opportunity.

Identifying key challenges

China’s large population makes it difficult to count and manage the large number of pets.

Information on different regional brands of veterinary hospitals does not interoperate.

There are private pet registration platforms, but they lack unified management and information sharing and do not allow for collaborative information sharing and interoperability.

  • Difficult to travel with pets
  • Pet medical care requires pet records
  • Lost pets happen all the time

Feasibility Analysis

Q1:Why this information system is needed now?

Q2:What are the needs of pet owners?

Q3:Why relevant measures exist, but are not done well?

The pet information system is accompanied by a very large number of stakeholders, forming a completed system map.

Design of service system maps for pet information systems and pet funeral service systems

Design outcome 1 - A blueprint for pet funeral services

Fill in your pet’s information through the Pet Information website and use it to link up with pet hospitals and funeral homes. The site provides an information base for memorial services after the death of a pet.

Design outcome 2 - Web design for the pet information system

Design outcome 3 - A virtual reality pet memorial application designed for pet funeral and memorial services.

The app generates AR models of pets based on information gathered from pet information websites about the characteristics of pets in their lifetime. Owners can choose the objects they want to create and tie them to their pets to interact with them after they have passed away.

Production process demonstration

The AR Pet effect is achieved by scanning objects associated with the pet.

Use your voice and gestures to interact with your virtual pet. This will continue the characteristics of the pet during its lifetime.
